After a five-year absence, one of Mitsubishi’s most respected names is officially back.

The 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero has been revealed for Australia as an all-new, full-size 4WD SUV, bringing the Pajero name into a new era with a stronger chassis, modern diesel powertrain, advanced four-wheel-drive technology and a substantially more premium cabin.

First Australian customer deliveries are expected from December 2026, with pricing starting at AUD 68,490 before on-road costs.

Under the bonnet is Mitsubishi's new-generation 4N16 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine.

480 Nm of torque

Power is transmitted through a new eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the six-speed configuration used in the related Triton.

The engine uses a variable-geometry turbocharger, water-cooled intercooler, dual-loop EGR and AdBlue emissions technology, and is Mitsubishi's first engine designed to comply with Euro 6d emissions requirements.

The Exceed moves the Pajero towards luxury SUV territory with 20-inch wheels, leather-appointed seating, heated front and rear seats, twin 14.3-inch displays and a 12-speaker Yamaha sound system.

Pajero GSR

AUD 84,990

The flagship GSR adds features including a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and memory front seats, digital rear-view mirror, adaptive lighting and distinctive black exterior detailing.

What Are Enthusiasts Saying?

As expected with the return of such an established name, reaction has been mixed.

Some enthusiasts have questioned whether a 2.4-litre diesel provides enough distinction for a flagship Pajero, while others have praised the specification, engineering and significantly upgraded interior.

There has also been debate over whether the new vehicle is spiritually closer to the old Pajero Sport because of its ladder-frame Triton relationship.

However, even among critics, its 150kW/480Nm output is broadly competitive with other diesel four-wheel-drive SUVs in this segment, and the specification indicates Mitsubishi has invested considerably more into this vehicle than simply rebadging a Pajero Sport.
